Clynelish 14 Year Old Highland Single Malt
A rich, zesty and smoky Highland Single Malt.
The Lowdown
This is a complex, multi-layered Highland malt with a really sweet inviting nose. On the palate there's honeyed fruitiness, a touch of smoke and a final briny hint that nods towards it coastal origins. The finish is nicely lengthy with bitter-sweet notes and a touch of spicy oak.
The Producer
Located on the east coast of Sutherland near the town of Brora and an hour's drive from Inverness, Clynelish is one of the more northerly distilleries in the Highland region. It was established in the 19th century as one of a number of 'Clearance' distilleries. In the wake of the infamous Highland Clearances the local laird, the Duke of Sutherland, created a number of businesses in the town of Brora which were staffed by former farmers who had been evicted from their crofts. Today, under the umbrella of the drinks giant Diageo, Clyneish supplies whiskies for blending into Jonnie Walker labels in addition to distinctive single malts of their own.
