Châteauneuf-du-Pape Broderie des Papes, Lavau 2024
A generous Châteauneuf with dark fruit, a hint of warm spice, velvety tannins, depth and elegance.
Medium-Full Body, Lightly Oaked
Vegan
The Lowdown
This inviting Grenache and Syrah led blend comes from fruit grown on sandy parcels of vines in the northern reaches of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. After a long a maceration, it spends 12 months split between vats and large, used oak barrels, giving it depth without overwhelming the fruit. The nose offers plums and black cherries with subtle hints of cocoa and cloves, while the palate is full, well-balanced, and carries an elegant finesse. With its ripe fruit and impressive length, this is generous and approachable staying true to Châteauneuf's classic style.
The Occasion
Grilled lamb chops with rosemary or garlic-marinated aubergine steaks are spot on, the flavours match a good Châteauneuf's ripe fruit, warm spice, and smooth richness perfectly.
The Producer
Maison Lavau is one of a small number of still independent, family-run estates in the Rhône Valley, with a winemaking heritage that began in Bordeaux in the 1800s before settling in Sablet in the 1960s. These days, brothers Benoit and Frédéric Lavau are at the helm, working from state-of-the-art cellars. They produce an impressive range of wines from all over the region, partnering with over 350 growers across the Rhône while owning a clutch of their own properties as well. Their wines are known for their generosity and quality, showing true Rhône character and approachable charm.
