Description
In a nutshell:
Plushy-textured, beautifully fresh Margaux from a very reliable Château.
The lowdown:
Rich and deep and full of ripe blackberries, this is nicely perfumed and floral on the nose which sits well with the spicy touch that accompanies the dark fruit flavours that abound within. The tannins are finely textured and the body not as full on as you might expect. The finish is long and fresh and altogether quite moreish. It's made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot and spent 12 months in barrel. Good value and a very approachable left bank Claret.
The Producer:
Château Paveil de Luze has been under the ownership of the De Luze family since the 1860's and, during that time, has seen a few ups and downs in its fortunes. In the early 2000's under the guidance of Frédéric de Luze the estate underwent comprehensive renovation and along with major improvements in both winemaking and vineyard management the estate has slowly but surely re-established itself a serious player in Margaux. The energetic Frédéric de Luze sadly died aged only 54 in 2016, but under the stewardship of his sisters Catherine and Marguerite standards continue to be maintained.
When to drink:
This is now nicely mature and drinking at its best and will stay that way for a few years yet. Think about pairing with something like partridge or duck.
