Description
In a nutshell:
A Merlot that's all juicy black plum with a touch of chocolate, and smooth as velvet.
The lowdown:
This Merlot is all about the fruit - ripe, juicy black plums with a touch of vanilla sweetness. It's from vineyards high up in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, where the soil gives it a hint of something earthy. The winemakers keep things old-school by handpicking the grapes and using traditional methods, but they also add a modern touch with temperature control and stainless steel. The result? A smooth, easy-drinking Merlot that's packed with pure fruit flavour.
The Producer:
Chateau Oumsiyat, founded in 1950 by the Bou Sleiman family, is now in the capable hands of the fourth generation. Sitting in the heart of the Bekaa Valley, the hub of Lebanese wine production, they have 78 hectares of vineyards situated over 1,000 metres above sea level. This altitude, coupled with the unique microclimate and ancient soils, leads to a range of wines with a distinctly Mediterranean character. They've put together a good blend of tradition and terroir, to show off the region's heritage and distinctive character.
When to drink:
This easy-drinking red's happy to join a casual spread. Burgers and sizzling pizzas are a sure bet, but it wouldn't say no to fragrant Asian flavours either.
