In a nutshell: Classic elegant, fruity and savoury Haut-Médoc Bordeaux from the great 2016 vintage.
The lowdown: A traditional left-bank Bordeaux from the Médoc made from a classic blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and a little Petit Verdot and aged in oak barrels for 12 months. This is a brilliant example of good quality, affordable and highly drinkable Bordeaux that is a key reason why wine from this region is still popular the world over, particularly here in the UK! 2016 was an excellent vintage producing great quality fruit, only enhanced by the strict environmental methods employed on the estate. Aromas of red and blackcurrant, cherry and plum with soft spice and vanilla notes. The palate is soft and broad with ripe, soft tannins, touches of smoke and leather, and a rounded finish.
When to drink: Highly versatile, try with classic red meat or game dishes, and fattier, saltier dishes in general. Will benefit from an hours decanting beforehand and has the capacity to age for another 5 years or so.
