Description
In a nutshell:
An elegant, aromatic Rhône white with soft peach, apricot, and floral hints, balanced by a smooth, refreshing finish.
The lowdown:
Night harvesting is what captures the essence of this delicious Rhône Viognier, preserving the delicate freshness and aromas the variety is known for. Smooth and rounded in texture, it offers a lush mouthfeel without feeling overly weighty, thanks to its balanced acidity. Notes of apricot and honeysuckle lead the way, with vibrant stone fruit flavours on the palate and a pleasantly saline finish that keeps things lively. It's a wine that combines aromatic freshness with a complexity that shows off just what this variety can do when crafted with care.
The Producer:
Château la Verrerie is situated in the Luberon in southern France, which while technically part of the Rhône wine producing area, is geographically in Provence which is borne out in the character of the wines they produce. The estate was originally purchased by Jean-Louis Descours back in 1981 who, along with his son Gérard, spent considerable time, effort and money in renovating the facilities and acquiring new vineyards. Currently they have 48 hectares of vines which are farmed organically, receiving certification in 2013. They produce reds and rosés from Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan and white wines from 7 hectares of Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. Today Christopher Descours the grandson of Jean-Louis runs the estate alongside technical director Valentine Tardieu-Vitali.
When to drink:
Pair it with a mildly spicy coconut curry or Moroccan tagine to highlight its lush fruit and floral notes.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
