Description
In a nutshell:
An elegant, aromatic, and well-structured Médoc with classic charm.
The lowdown:
Pure and classic Médoc, this has a delicious elegance amid crisp dark red berry fruit and is seasoned perfectly with lovely cedarwood notes and a sprinkle of clove. The blend consists of roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc completing the picture. Spending 14 months in oak before bottling, it's in the traditional Claret mould with real depth, lovely fruit, and smooth edges
The Producer:
Château Fourcas Dupré, established in 1843, is in Listrac-Médoc, one of the six Haut-Médoc communes that you'll see named on the bottle. Now owned by French entrepreneur Gérard Jicquel, the estate spans 46 hectares of typically gravelly soils. The vineyards are predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Over the years, ownership has changed hands, but the commitment to quality remains unwavering. Fourcas Dupré's wines are textbook examples of the appellation, showcasing the structure and finesse typical of Listrac-Médoc.
When to drink:
Now at its peak, it works well with all types of beef and lamb dishes.
