Description
Champagne
Extra Brut
ABV 12.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
Pinot Noir-driven Extra Brut from Montagne de Reims, brisk, dry and finely shaped by lees ageing.
The Lowdown:
The Montagne de Reims is famed for firm-framed, Pinot-Noir-driven Champagnes, and this is very much in that mould. A blend of 70 percent Pinot Noir and 30 percent Chardonnay, it spends nearly three years on lees before disgorgement. The 3 g/L dosage keeps it firmly on the dry side, letting red-apple fruit, citrus lift and a touch of spice shine against a taut, structured palate, rounded subtly by brioche notes.
The Producer:
Domaine Méa is a seven-hectare family estate in the south-west of the Montagne de Reims, with vineyards in the Grand Cru villages of Louvois and Bouzy and Premier Cru Tauxières-Mutry. Five generations of the Méa family have worked these chalk-rich slopes, today led by Sophie Méa and her husband Franck Moussie. The estate farms organically, avoiding herbicides and pesticides, and holds HVE certification. Alongside bottling their own champagnes, they also supply juice to Bollinger - a telling sign of the quality of their fruit.
When to Drink:
Best with oysters, sashimi or smoked fish, its firm cut and savoury edge work seamlessly with seafood.
