Description
In a nutshell:
An attractive, plush style of rosé Champagne
The lowdown:
Very appetizing both on the eye and on the tongue, Gremillet's Brut Rosé is a pink Champagne that hits all the right notes (and in the right order). Pinot Noir forms backbone here and while there's a pleasing delicacy it's underpinned with a little extra richness that is a bit of a Gremillet trademark. It has the fine bubbles of all good Champagne and a wonderful texture that leads up to the tangy finish. It's aged for a minimum of 22 months which all the elements have had time to marry together properly. Quite a treat and not too hefty on the pocket.
The Producer:
Champagne Gremillet, founded in 1979 by Jean-Michel Gremillet when he inherited a plot of vines, has grown into a substantial house with over 40 hectares of vineyards. Nestled in Balnot sur Laignes, just 45 kilometres from Troyes, the historic capital of the Champagne region, Gremillet's vineyards thrive on steep, sun-drenched hillsides where the Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils are perfect for their main plantings of Pinot Noir and a little Chardonnay. Their style is characterised by rich, fruit-forward flavours with classic baked biscuit notes.
When to drink:
Great served with canapés as an apertif; great served with game such as roast duck; great with fresh berries in a dessert - pretty adaptable we'd say.
Suitable for Vegetarians
