Description
Rosé Champagne
Brut
ABV 12.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A dry, elegant rosé Champagne led by Pinot Meunier, showing bright red fruit, fine mousse and a brisk, dry finish.
The Lowdown:
In the Vallée de la Marne full and fruity Pinot Meunier is the mainstay grape, which really shows to great effect here. Smaller portions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay add depth, and the wine spends over two years resting on its lees before release. Aromas of redcurrant, strawberry and rose petal are joined by a subtle brioche note from ageing. The palate is precise and energetic, with fine bubbles and a clean, sustained finish that keeps fruit and freshness in balance.
The Producer:
The small house of Gratiot-Pillière, situated in the town of Charly-Sur-Marne, has been handed down through the generation since 1657 and is, today, in the hands of the 11th generation of the family in the shape of brothers Olivier and Sébastian Gratiot. Their vineyards are spread across local sites from Chely-Sur-Marne to nearby Azy-Sur-Marne and extend to 18 hectares in total. They are a good example of a classic, small Champenois grower-producer who are focused on producing excellent value Champagnes at value for money prices.
When to Drink:
Pairs neatly with charcuterie, smoked salmon or poultry - the lively acidity and dry finish cut through admirably.
