Description
In a nutshell:
A well made, well balanced and appealing Sicilian white.
The lowdown:
We've been looking for a well priced, but serious example of Grillo, a native Sicilian grape, for a while but to no avail until we tasted this one. Bright and fresh at first then developing some citrus and stone fruit flavours before the characteristic biscuit and earthy notes come through.
The Producer:
Cantine Pellgrino, one of Sicily's most important wineries, is one of only three original 19th-century founders of the Marsala trade still in existence. Despite the relative decline of Marsala over the years, theyve been pivotal in bringing Sicilys other wines to prominence. Today, with over 150 hectares of vineyards and three wineries, they produce highly respected wines that find their way around the world. Living up to their rich heritage while showcasing the diverse potential of Sicilian wines they're a quiet yet significant player in the islands wine scene.
When to drink:
Fish steaks and meaty grilled fish go well with this.
