Cantina Gambellara Classico 2025
A dry, subtly aromatic white from the volcanic hills east of Verona. There's peach and citrus fruit, a clear mineral line and a lightly spicy, lengthy finish, showing off the best qualities of this small DOC.

The Lowdown
Gambellara is not a million miles from Soave – both in geography and style. The region itself is smaller and sits just to the east on similar hilly, volcanic soils, but the wines have a subtle point of difference that shows in their extra mineral lift and savoury edge. This one, made purely from Garganega, is a good example. There are gentle stone-fruit and citrus notes, with a clean, mineral edge. It’s dry, with more body than you might expect, a lightly aromatic touch and even a hint of almond and spice. All very subtle, but with plenty going on.
The Occasion
Very versatile, it works with plenty of dishes – grilled or baked white fish, seafood risotto and pasta with light sauces – where its dry, gently fruity and mineral profile complements them nicely.
The Producer
Established in 1947 Cantina di Gambellara is a cooperative based in the town of the same name, roughly halfway between Vicenza and Verona and, while much of their production is Gambellara DOC, they also produce wines from neighbouring Soave and others from the wider Veneto/Verona area. They have around 300 members, with vineyards spanning over 600 hectares. The vineyards of Gambellara are rooted in volcanic soils, which give the wines a distinctive richness and aromatic quality that is a hallmark of the cooperative’s production. Their aim is to capture the essence of this unique terroir, making wines with a definite sense of place.
