Description
Firm & Spicy Red
Medium-Full Body, Oaked
Argentina, ABV 13.5%, 75cl
In a Nutshell:
A rich, spice-edged Mendoza Malbec with dark fruit, smoky charm and a well-judged touch of grip.
The Lowdown:
First made in 1947, Caballero de la Cepa was a trailblazer - one of Argentina's first premium wines, and a name that still carries weight today. The fruit comes from rocky, well-drained vineyards in Barrancas, where low yields and high altitude give concentration without heaviness. It's aged in used French oak to let the fruit shine - think black plum, violet and a dusting of cocoa, with soft tannins and bright acidity keeping things neat and composed. There's richness here too, but also restraint - that experience still counts for something.
The Producer:
Finca Flichman is a classic Argentinian winery with roots stretching back to 1910. From its humble beginnings in Barrancas, its wines found international renown thanks to visionary winemakers like Isaac Flichman. Since 1998, the Sogrape group has brought a modern touch, expanding vineyards into the revered Uco Valley. This high-altitude spot, with its cool nights and long ripening season, brings elegance to their wines. Finca Flichman remains a benchmark for Argentinian wine, supported by experts like Alberto Antonini and Pedro Parra, ensuring continued quality and a keen eye on the region's unique terroir.
When to Drink:
Brilliant with grilled lamb or smoky aubergine, where the dark fruit, spice and grip match bold flavours step for step.
