Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh, lively Chardonnay with notes of green apple, pear, and a touch of citrus, balanced by a hint of creaminess and a clean, mineral finish.
The lowdown:
Made with fruit from vines with an average age of 40 years from a plot in the village of Bussières in the south of the Mâconnais, this is classic Southern Burgundy Chardonnay. The vines thrive in the region's argilo-calcaire soils, lending the wine a natural elegance and finesse. With around 10% aged in barrels, it acquires a subtle creaminess without overpowering its fresh character. Expect a nose of fine buttery and floral notes, while on the palate, theres a touch of creamy texture up front, gentle oak, and a finish marked by mineral hints and a bit of citrus zest, leaving lovely, lingering flavours.
The Producer:
Genetie is an intriguing venture in Burgundy's Mâconnais, led by Samantha Bailey, a winemaker who knows the ins and outs of this area's vineyards extremely well. Her aim is to create wines that capture the essence of southern Burgundy - a region often in the shadow of its more famous northern counterparts. These wines have a quiet elegance; theyre well-crafted and unpretentious, with a focus on flavour rather than fuss.
When to drink:
This goes down a treat with coq au vin blanc, gougères, or a creamy mushroom fricassée, as its bright acidity and mineral edge cut through the richness and lift those earthy flavours beautifully.
Suitable for Vegans
