The lowdown:
Le Cigare Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino and Clairette that all work together harmoniously resulting in a fresh and vibrant wine with a rounded mouthfeel and medium weight. The Vermentino really shines through with notes of citrussy lime and tropical mango and pineapple with fresh pine and minerally wet stone touches. The Grenache Blanc brings weight and the roundness while the Clairette helps balance everything out adds a lovely length.
The Producer:
Bonny Doon is an iconic Californian winery founded by the legendary Randall Grahm in the 1980s who was inspired by Chateauneuf-du-Pape and became a pioneer in the use of Rhône varietals in the Central Coast; one of the original 'Rhône Ranger' winemakers. Bonny Doon's grapes are grown with respect to biodynamics and great care is taken with respect to the vineyard soils in particular, their wines always try and showcase 'terroir' as do the great wines of the old world.
When to drink:
A perfect seafood accompaniment, particularly weight fish, asparagus or other grilled vegetables.
