Beaujolais Villages, Alex Foillard 2024
Imagine a handful of sun-ripened raspberries crushed in your palm: this organic red echoes that vibrancy, with a delightfully smooth, fruit-forward charm.
The Lowdown
This delightful Beaujolais is all juicy red berries - think raspberries just bursting into ripeness - with a touch of something floral, like violets hiding at the edge of a summer meadow. Made from Gamay grapes, grown organically by a young chap clearly following in his legendary father's footsteps, it's light-bodied and refreshing, with a smooth texture and a whisper of tannins. Unfussy winemaking - minimal intervention - lets the fruit shine through, making it gulpable in the best possible way.
The Occasion
Crack open this juicy, easy-drinking red for carefree evenings with cured meats, light curries or simply enjoyed on its own.
The Producer
Following in his father Jean's footsteps (a Beaujolais natural wine legend), Alex Foillard is making a name for himself. After travelling the wine world, Alex returned home, sourced a couple of hectares in Brouilly and began crafting his own wines. Organically farmed and made with minimal intervention, they show a bright, juicy style. With Alex's talent, the future of the Foillard legacy looks very promising.
