The lowdown:
The Guasch family, owners of Baron de Sigognac, have been in Gascony since the 1100's and their expertise in making top quality Armagnac's is rivalled by few. This, their 20 year old has been aged in oak barrels and is very supple on the nose with vanilla and brioche notes standing out prominently. On the palate it's elegantly velvety with rich flavours of figs, dried fruits and spicy, tangy oak. The finish is long with a warm spiciness lingering with real persistence. A rewarding and opulent example of aged Armagnac.
The Producer:
Owned by the Guasch family and located in the Bas Armagnac region of Gascony, Domaine Baron Sigognac has been in existence since the 12th century. They produce spirits only and all of their production distilled into Armagnac and not wine. Run by father and son team who jointly look after viticulture, vinification and distillation duties, each vintage is independently aged and then back blended with other Armagnac years prior to release.
