The lowdown:
This is a quality Bas Armagnac from a well regarded producer which has spent a minimum of 10 years in barrel. With an attractive nose and discernible hints of vanilla, cinnamon and candied orange it's nicely round and full in the mouth. Earthy with notes of dried fruit and toffee yet showing floral, woody and spicy notes it's got a long well-balanced finish with hints of almonds and vanilla. This is an Armagnac that well captures the essence of brandies from Gascony.
The Producer:
Owned by the Guasch family and located in the Bas Armagnac region of Gascony, Domaine Baron Sigognac has been in existence since the 12th century. They produce spirits only and all of their production distilled into Armagnac and not wine. Run by father and son team who jointly look after viticulture, vinification and distillation duties, each vintage is independently aged and then back blended with other Armagnac years prior to release.
