Description
In a nutshell:
A Barolo rich with ripe red berries, a hint of spice, and smooth tannins that feels both bold and easily approachable.
The lowdown:
This is Barolo in its more traditional guise, showcasing the Nebbiolo grape's characteristic power and depth. The fruit comes from across the 11 communes of the Barolo region and spends 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks, building its complexity. The result is a wine with enticing aromas of dried fruit, roses, and roasted coffee beans. On the palate, it's full and smooth, with layers of dark fruit balanced by a savoury mineral streak. The ripe tannins are well-judged, giving way to a long, elegant finish. A classic expression with a touch of refinement.
The Producer:
San Silvestro, with over 150 years of history, is a well-established family estate in the commune of Novello, tucked away in the southwest corner of the Barolo region. Now run by cousins Paolo and Guido Sartirano, the winery combines its own 7 hectares of vineyards with fruit sourced from a network of trusted local growers across Barolo and beyond. The focus is firmly on sustainable practices, working with traditional Piedmontese varieties to create wines that are both authentic and approachable.
When to drink:
Drink it now or give it a few years, either way it's spot on with slow-cooked venison stew or agnolotti del plin, both bringing out its rich fruit and savoury elegance.
Suitable for Vegans
