The lowdown:
Balvenie Double Wood is firstly matured in refill American oak casks before being aged in first fill European oak Oloroso Sherry casks for an additional nine months creating its distinctive character. It's full of aromas of sweet fruit and sherry notes layered with honey and vanilla before reaching a long and warmign finish. It's become something of an iconic bottling over the years and this rich and complex dram is an excellent example of what the Balvenie distillery can do.
The Distillery:
The Balvenie, founded in 1892 by William Grant, remains one of the few distilleries still owned by the original family. Situated in the Convals in Dufftown, the heart of Speyside, it's one of the rare distilleries that still malts its own barley, a testament to their commitment to craftsmanship. They also supply the nearby Glenfiddich distillery with whom they share the pristine Robbie Dhu springs as their water source.
