Description
In a nutshell:
A very impressive Argentinian Malbec with both power and elegance from the Tupungato sub-region of Mendoza.
The lowdown:
This is Atamisque's flagship Malbec and is a widely admired wine. The fruit for this comes entirely from their own high altitude vineyards which is picked by hand, fermented in stainless steel and aged in new French oak for fourteen months. It's impressive, powerful yet pleasantly restrained. On the nose there are atractive aromas of violet blackberries and a hint of toboacco while on the palate Black fruit, liquorice, dried fruits, mocha and cedar flavours come to the fore. The tannins are well integrated and along with the clean minerality it makes a very well balanced wine.
The Producer:
Bodega Atamisque, nestled in the Tupungato region of Mendoza's Uco Valley, was founded in 2006 by Frenchman John du Monceau and his wife Chantal. Their beautiful estate is not just about making exquisite wines; they've also embraced wine tourism with gusto, offering accommodation, outdoor experiences, gastronomy, and, of course, winery tours and tastings. The key thing to remember though is that none of this detracts from the quality of their wines, which beautifully showcase the best the region has to offer. It's a perfect blend of tradition, innovation, and hospitality.
When to drink:
It's got good ageing potential and is perfect with rich recipes like beef wellington or beef stroganoff.
