Description
In a nutshell:
A wonderfully fresh and fruity traditional natural Georgian white.
The lowdown:
Archil Guniava Wine Cellar is a very small, long established family winery based in the Imereti region in western Georgia, a very traditional and historical area and one synonymous with food and wine. Archil Guniava have a tiny 1.5 hectare vineyard comprising a number of native varieties including the important white grapes Tsitska, Tsolikouri and Krakhuna which are not only indigenous to Georgia but to Imereti itself. This blend of the three (60/20/20) is a natural wine made traditionally, no herbicides or pesticides, hand-picked, natural fermentation with a third spending time on the skins for 3 months and matured in qvevri clay vessels for 11 months. No added sulphur and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
In the glass really fresh and fruity with aromas of apple, pear and citrus with background hints of honey and dry herbs. Fresh, clean and rounded on the palate this is a lovely wine and a real representation of white wine from this part of Georgia.
When to drink:
Great with food and really versatile. Works really well with chicken and white meat dishes, salads and cheeses.
