Description
Complex & Structured Red
Medium-Full Body, Oaked
Tuscany & Central Italy, ABV 14.0%, 75cl
In a Nutshell:
A landmark Tuscan red: poised, powerful, and unmistakably refined.
The Lowdown:
One of the original Super-Tuscans and still a standout. This blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc helped shake up the region's rulebook, and it's only grown in stature since. Grapes are grown on high, stony slopes in Chianti Classico, where galestro soils bring lift and definition. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with oak ageing in French and Hungarian barrels for over a year to add polish and depth.
In style, it walks a fine line - concentrated and structured, yet with clarity and restraint. Expect layers of dark cherry, plum and blackcurrant, with hints of leather, wild herbs and subtle spice. The finish is long, composed and savoury, underpinned by fine tannins and measured power. A serious wine with plenty to say, and the track record to back it up.
The Producer
The Tignanello Estate is one of the crown jewels in the Marchesi Antinori family - arguably Italy's most prestigious and influential wine dynasty, with over six centuries of winemaking heritage. Set in the rolling hills of Chianti Classico, this historic estate is home to the groundbreaking Tignanello wine, first released in the 1970s. At the time, it broke with convention by blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc - an unheard-of move that helped spark Italy's Super Tuscan revolution. Grown on limestone-rich soils and crafted with precision, the wine remains a benchmark: deep, structured, and age-worthy, with dark cherry, tobacco, spice and savoury undertones. The estates vineyards are immaculately tended, reflecting Antinori's unwavering commitment to terroir and innovation. Today, Tignanello continues to turn heads, earning its place among the worlds most iconic winesproof that sometimes, challenging tradition is the best way to honour it.
When to Drink:
Will start showing its best from late 2026 and easily hold until 2040. Pair with roast lamb, bistecca or wild mushroom dishes to match its depth and savoury complexity.
