In a nutshell:
A delicious organic English Sparkling wine grown on the North Downs in Surrey.
The English climate doesn't make it easy for organic viticulture, but at Nick Wenman's small estate near Guildford that's what they're committed to and they make a pretty good job of it. This, their flagbearing Classic Cuvée is made in the traditional method from a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes. Fewer than 6,000 bottles of this were produced in 2017. There's subtle fruit on the nose, predominately red berries from the Pinot, a little light citrus from the Chardonnay, and a hint of peach is backed up by a really long, mouth-filling palate that lingers and satisfies. Fresh and lively, the ripe acidity is complemented by a subtle sweetness.
When to drink:
An admirable, small production English sparkler, it's an ideal aperitif, or as a partner to seafood and chicken dishes.
