Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh and aromatic Greek white capturing the essence of its native terroir with elegance and finesse.
The lowdown:
Savatiano is a native Greek variety and the backbone of many of the country's whites. Here, made from old vines around 50 years of age, there's a whole layer of complexity to add to the quince and vanilla aromas and ripe melon and peach flavours. Silky on the tongue but with a spiky touch of ginger to liven things up, there's plenty going on. If youve tried a decent Roussanne from the south of France, you'll get the idea of this. Understated and intriguing with hidden depths.
The Producer:
The Akriotou Microwinery was founded by Vasiliki Akriotou in 2015 who decided to strike out on her own after gaining years of experience in other Greek wineries. The winery and vineyards sit in the shadow of Mount Kitheron, near historic Plataea, about 50km northwest of Athens. It's a small, boutique operation where Vasiliki's focus on native Greek varieties and deep understanding of the region's terroir has earned her wines regular awards and underlines her commitment to quality.
When to drink:
Pairing it with a Greek seafood meze is spot on, but it's versatile enough to work beautifully with most fish, pasta, or salads.
Suitable for Vegans
