Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh, crisp, and zesty Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa's Western Cape, packed with vibrant citrus, green fruit, and a bright, refreshing finish.
The lowdown:
If you enjoy the ripe tropicality of New World Sauvignon Blanc but can sometimes find certain Kiwi examples a bit over the top, this should tick a few boxes. Grown near the coast, where cool breezes help keep the acidity bright, it's packed with fresh white peach, passionfruit, and tropical aromas. The palate is crisp and vibrant, balancing zesty fruit with green herbaceous notes and a flinty, mineral streak. Stylish and ripe yet beautifully refreshing, with a good balance of vibrant fruit, freshness, and finesse.
The Producer:
Klein Zalze, nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands, was revitalised when Kobus Basson purchased the estate in 1996. Although winemaking has been a part of this land since 1695, it's the recent investment and methodical approach that have catapulted Klein Zalze to prominence. In just 20 years, it has become one of the most awarded estates in Stellenbosch. Their wines are a true reflection of the region's terroir, showcasing a perfect blend of tradition and modern winemaking techniques.
When to drink:
Great on its own, but the bright acidity and zesty fruit make it spot on for seafood, fresh salads, or lighter Asian dishes - things like grilled prawns, citrus-dressed greens, or fragrant lemongrass chicken.
