Description
In a nutshell:
This Romanian Sauvignon Blanc is a softer, easy-drinking take, with gentle citrus and ripe melon flavours that make it perfect for casual quaffing
The lowdown:
This Sauvignon Blanc is a great example of the value and quality coming out of Romania these days. Softer and more subtle than some of the punchier antipodean styles, it still delivers plenty of tangerine and gooseberry flavours with a lively, refreshing mouthfeel. Gentle fruity notes round things off, giving it a welcoming, easy-going elegance that makes it wonderfully drinkable.
The Producer:
Back in the late 1980s, as Romania began to emerge from behind the Iron Curtain, three families decided to take on a challenge: reviving a rundown, state-owned winery and 650 hectares of neglected vineyards. What started as a bold gamble has, thanks to Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira, grown into Cramele Recas the most successful winery in Romania. Today, the estate is widely recognised for its scale, modernity, and an impressively diverse range of wines. From organic natural and orange wines to approachable everyday bottles, they focus on producing wines that consistently over-deliver. Despite their size, the ethos is rooted in quality and innovation, with state-of-the-art facilities that embrace both tradition and experimentation. Their open-minded approach, coupled with a skill for crafting wines with character, certainly sets them apart.
When to drink:
Lovely for a lazy afternoon, but it' also great with grilled prawns or lemon-roasted chicken - the zesty citrus and soft fruit flavours pair beautifully with lighter dishes.
Suitable for Vegans
