Description
In a nutshell:
A ripe, juicy South African red, packed with dark berry fruit, a touch of spice, and a smooth, rounded drinkability.
The lowdown:
Swartlands cool climate and low rainfall help keep this generously full-bodied red fresh and easy to drink. Peppery Shiraz is in the majority, with warm, spicy Mourvèdre making up the rest of the blend, plus just a splash of Viognier. Black cherry and summer pudding lead the way on the nose, while raspberry and aromatic spice swirl on the palate, along with a hint of creaminess. Rich and dark, packed with fruit and a touch of chocolate, it's got a big savoury heart and plenty of character. Bold but approachable, and very easy to get on with.
The Producer:
Boutinot has been part of the South African winemaking scene since 1994, originally drawn by a love of Loire-style Chenin Blanc. Since then, they've branched out in all sorts of directions. Their winemaking team - JD Rossouw and Ryno Booysen - bring the energy and enthusiasm, while Samantha Bailey adds a touch of finesse. It's a mix of knowledge, nature, and a bit of science, all coming together to create a versatile and expressive range of wines in a country with 360 years of winemaking history.
When to drink:
This robust red's full-bodied character craves a dish with real presence. A rich casserole or a succulent roast would be a perfect match, allowing the wine to complement the flavours without being overshadowed.
