A Top-Class Languedoc Red with a Coastal Twist

We’re heading to the Languedoc for April’s Wine of the Month, specifically to La Clape - a striking limestone outcrop wedged between Narbonne and the Mediterranean. In Roman times, this was an island, and it was then that vines were first planted here. These days, the land is firmly connected to the mainland, but the sea’s influence remains. Thanks to its coastal location, the wines here have all the warmth and ripe fruit you’d expect from the south of France, but with a freshness and structure that sets them apart. So much so that La Clape was awarded its own appellation in 2015.

La Côte from Château La Négly is a perfect example. A blend of Syrah, Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, it’s plush yet balanced, full of juicy black fruit, wild herbs, and a touch of oak for added depth. Half the blend is aged in wooden vats, giving it a smooth, refined texture without overpowering its natural vibrancy. Alongside its dark berry richness, you get the unmistakable scent of garrigue - those wild herbs that thrive across the sun-baked Languedoc hills - plus a savoury, peppery edge that keeps it fresh and food-friendly.

Even better, as April’s Wine of the Month, it’s not just great value - it also comes with 100 bonus loyalty points per bottle. A top-notch Languedoc red with a little extra reward on the side? Seems like an easy decision.
