Limited Parcel - Cotes du Rhone Villages 'Les Coteaux' Magnum

Medium

We were fortunate to be offered a very small parcel of one of our best selling wines in Magnum form, and so promptly snapped it up! Domaine Boutinot ‘Les Coteaux’ Côtes du Rhône Villages red is a consistent top seller here at Noble Green, and rightly so. Wines from the Côtes du Rhône are among the most accessible, versatile and enjoyable we sell and Domaine Boutinot nail it in the balance between not shirking on quality and value.

We have a very small amount of Boutinot’s ‘Les Coteaux’ Côtes du Rhône in magnum form to offer, and while we have moved onto the 2020 vintage for the regular 75cl bottles we are delighted that our magnums are from the great 2017 vintage and so have that extra bit of maturity on them. The perfect size bottle if you’re having a few friends or family around, as a present, or to tuck away for a year or two as magnums are the best size for ageing wine.

Based in their small winery in the Cru village of Cairanne Boutinot select top-quality Grenache and Syrah grapes from across the best Côtes du Rhône Villages to make their ‘Les Coteaux’ cuveé, which is then enriched with wine from the villages of Séguret and Sablet. The 2017 is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah from a highly rated year that is noted for its concentrated reds that produced age-worthy wines.

In a nutshell: A lively, fruit-filled and spicy Côtes du Rhône red.
The lowdown: While many producers in these parts reserve their best wines for the 17 single village names that can be used Boutinot approach things from a different angle. They take the best fruit from across all these villages to put into this their Côtes du Rhône Villages wine. It's lively, a touch peppery, with plenty of dark fruits and a cherry-scented nose. The weight is nicely judged and not too heavy and overall it's fresh and juicy with the fine, soft tannins giving an excellent structural backbone.
