E. Guigal are one of the most respected producers of the Rhône Valley and in particular the dramatic Northern Rhône. Here in the appellation of Crozes-Hermitage where only 10% of wines are white theirs is consistently one of the standard bearers of quality.
Made with the native Rhône grape Marsanne this luscious white is full-bodied, rich and aromatic though with a lovely freshness that cuts through onto a clean finish. An excellent food pairing wine that suits everything from freshly grilled trout, to seabass, pork, Asian cuisine and stinky cheeses!

The lowdown:
Over the hill of Hermitage and its prestigious but tiny vineyards lies Crozes-Hermitage which in capable hands such as E. Guigal can produce similar whites but at much better value. Guigal's Crozes-Hermitage Blanc is classic cuvée of mostly Marsanne with just a small amount of Rousanne from vineyards that were once part of the admired (so much so that Guigal bought it) Vallouit estate. Only partially aged in oak before bottling the wine has a lovely golden hue in the glass with floral aromas of white flowers and hawthorn blossom along with notes of acacia and delicate oak. Full-bodied on the palate with a weight and richness though there is balanced acidity which imparts a remarkable freshness to the wine and a clean finish.
When to drink:
Best served at 10°C-12°C and ready for drinking now and over the next year. Classic pairing would be pan fried trout or seabass but also with richer seafoods such as lobster and crab. Also try with white meats like veal and pork, soft, strong cheeses such as Epoisses, and also various Asian cuisine.
