Olivier Coste - Languedoc Stars

Medium

Three brand new wines from the Languedoc! Introducing a triumvirate of approachable, modern and fruit-forward varietal wines celebrating both classic and rare Languedoc grapes by winemaker Oliver Coste.

Olivier’s family have been making wine in Pézenas, halfway between Béziers and Montpellier near the Mediterranean, for over 300 years and these three new wines are among his ‘Languedoc Stars’ that are all about showcasing traditional varieties in a fresh, modern, easy-drinking style.

He is one of only a few winemakers left to grow the rare grape Carignan Blanc (new one on us) that produces a dry, fresh, aromatic and minerally wine, perfect with oysters or mussels (from nearby Étang de Thau). His Mourvedre ‘Illegal’ is one of the most approachable and smooth Mourvedres we have tried, and is so named as the grape is not on the ‘approved’ list in the tiny Languedoc appellation where it is grown, so is simply labelled as a Vin de France! And the organic Carignan Noir ‘Je t’aime’ is all about what great wines old-vine Carignan can be. Grown organically in the nearby Minervois wine area from over 60-year-old vines it is has a real super cool smoothness.
