Cuvée Caprice: The Rare £17.50 Saint-Émilion Bargain (36 Bottles Only)

Medium

Cuvée Caprice - Serious name, unserious price.

A rare thing in Bordeaux - a wine that carries its Saint-Émilion heritage with charm rather than swagger.

From the Bouyer family's Château Milon estate, this pure Merlot hits that Right Bank sweet spot: supple fruit, fine structure and that rounded, polished feel you only find on the Right Bank. Great pedigree, zero pretension.

The Bouyers are one of Saint-Émilion's dependable families, and their wines are often better than the price suggests. Cuvée Caprice comes from the same hands as Clos de la Cure and the posage-stamp-sized Clos 56 in Pomerol, and shows the same balance of ripeness and restraint. Generous red-berry fruit, a touch of cedar and spice, and fine-grained tannins carry through to a long, composed finish. Classic Saint-Émilion character - at a price that makes you look twice.
