This wine is produced under Boutinot’s name by winemaker Samantha Bailey, who has been working and producing wines in southern Burgundy for many years. She has perfected the craft of producing wines that honestly express the tapestry of the local terroir. After many years of trying to acquire a vineyard in this area, Boutinot were successful in purchasing two key plots in the best climates of Saint-Veran. The wine is also produced in a gravity-fed winery, located next to the original 300-year-old house of the estate.
The appellation of Saint-Veran shares many similarities with its ‘big brother’ Pouilly-Fuisse, which is known for its dry crisp fruity white wine with complex oak character. The vineyards are ideally located on some of the best sites situated on the foothills of two ‘rochers’ – La Roche de Solutre and La Roche de Vergisson. The soil under the vine is dominated by granite subsoil, which lends an influence to the elegant flinty edge of the wine. This particular wine has undergone partial malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine a subtle creamy texture, weight and presence.
This wine is a classic Chardonnay from the area, offering some lovely fresh citrus notes of lemon peel, and floral notes with interesting exotic undertones.
