A Coronation Cracker

Henner's Maypole Brut 2017

A terrific Traditional Method English Sparkling Brut that's just the ticket for celebrating the Coronation in style.

Since the turn of the century English wine has burst on the scene in style and staked a claim alongside the more traditional wine-producing countries. Our home-grown sparkling wines in particular can rub shoulders with the best from anywhere and so with the coronation of King Charles looming into view it seems only the proper thing to celebrate the event with one of this country's excellent wines.

Even though we say so ourselves we carry quite a range of English wines (take a look here at our English still wines and sparkling wines) and we've decided to feature this one in particular for a number of very good reasons:

It's a classic sparkling brut made in the traditional method from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier.
It's deliciously apple crisp on the tongue - a hallmark of English sparklers - and with 5 years bottle age before being disgorged it also has that yeasty, biscuity character we all look for in a serious sparkling wine.
It's made by Henners Vineyards on the south-facing slopes of the Sussex Downs near Herstmonceaux, the heart of the English vineyard belt. Their first plantings were in 2007 and they're one of the new wave of English wineries who've brought a high level of professionalism to this country's wine industry.
We're able to offer it for sale at a remarkably modest price - just £19.50 per bottle - so if you've yet to try out an English sparkler this has to be the ideal occasion to take the opportunity to give one a whirl.
