Altano Rewilding Wine in a Box

We have two very exciting new products from an existing producer, Symington Family Estate, to introduce.

They have partnered up with a Portuguese organisation called Rewilding Portugal. Together they have released an exceptional red wine in two sized formats that strive for improved sustainability and to protect and restore Portugal’s Northern region.

Symington Family Estates is an entirely family-owned and managed company, with five of the family working together maintaining the vineyards and making the wines. They are a large producer of many styles of Portuguese Wines and Ports. Since 1999 Altano has been the flagship brand for the table wines produced by Symington. This recent release of the Rewilding Edition range has been done in collaboration with Rewilding Portugal.

Rewilding Portugal is a non-profit that is pioneering an ambitious conservation strategy on a 120,000-hectare wildlife corridor in the Greater Coa Valley in northern Portugal. Every sale of the Altano Rewilding Edition will contribute financial support to help them in their efforts to protect and restore natural landscapes and wildlife. The design of the bottle and carton shows the native wildlife that the charity is aiming to help.

The Rewilding Edition range is available in two formats, the conventional 75-glass bottle and the 225cl bag-in-tube format. Both formats have the decorative Rewilding Edition label and incredible wine inside. The 225cl bag-in-tube format contains the equivalent of three bottles, combined with the 100% recyclable package makes this format incredibly sustainable because it produces a much lower carbon footprint than the equivalent volume in glass. The bag-in-tube format is not only stunning but also practical, as it can be enjoyed for 4-6 weeks once opened.

This red wine is made from a combination of several traditional Douro grape varieties sourced from the Symington family’s Douro Valley vineyards, principally those located in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior subregions. The wine is fermented in stainless steel vats with pumping over and soft macerations at low temperatures aiming to extract colour and aromas and limit tannin extraction. This is done to produce a wine that has fresh flavours, floral aromatics, and ripe fruit flavours. The wine is made for drinking young and once packaged it is ready to be consumed.
