A Rhône That Knows How to Work a Stage

A bold, fruity number from the Burle brothers – lively, warming and just a bit showy.

If ever a wine deserved a curtain call, it’s this one. Burle Est-ce Que ? takes its cue from the brothers behind some serious Gigondas and Vacqueyras reds — and gives them a touch of theatrical flair. The name’s a pun, the label’s pure burlesque, but what’s in the bottle is seriously good.

Drawn from vineyards just outside the Gigondas boundary, this is what happens when top-drawer winemaking meets slightly less exalted ground. Mostly Grenache and Syrah, with a supporting cast of Marselan and Caladoc, it bursts onto the palate with ripe dark berries, cracked pepper and a whiff of herbs. It’s generous, juicy and properly Rhône in all the right ways — serious winemaking with a twinkle in its eye.

For December, that makes perfect sense. It’s got the warmth and spice for hearty winter dishes, enough polish for the festive table, and more than enough character to hold its own beside the turkey, the beef, or the noise of Christmas itself.

At a mixed-six price of £15.90 (even for a single bottle) — plus 100 bonus loyalty points — this crowd-pleaser is ready to take a bow.
