Wine of the Month - August 2021

Medium

Dry and delicate Italian rosé from the area southwest of Padua in the Veneto.

Made from 100% Pinot Nero (aka Pinot Noir outside of Italy) it's carefully pressed and macerated to retain the all elegant primary aromas. In its striking bottle it has a brilliant rosé colour while the bouquet of elegant wild strawberry and cherry lead onto a smooth and harmonious palate where the delicate fruit flavours are complemented with some pleasantly savoury hints.

This wine is a super and refreshing alternative to Provençal rosés, perfect accompaniment for an August BBQ.

Made by the Biscardo Family have been making wine from their base in Soave for over 150 years and the operations are currently led by brothers Maurizio and Martino Biscardo. Their headquarters lie in the town of San Bonifacio east of Verona in the heart of Soave country.

Renowned for their Proseccos and Corvina based reds in particular. During the course of Maurizio's long and illustrious career he has consulted for well known wineries around Italy and in doing so he came across the vineyards that provide the grapes for their Puglian wines.

All of their Pugliese and Veneto wines are exceptionally well made approachable and, with the modest pricing, provide a consistently good level of bang for the buck. The vineyards supplying the fruit for this wine are near the picturesque Euganei Hills which are famed for their hot springs.
