Spanish Vegan and Organic Snapshot Case

Medium

Our vegan and organic Spanish mixed cases are the perfect opportunities to delve into and explore the world of organic and vegan wines!

Our 3 bottle Spanish Vegan and Organic Snapshot Case give you a snapshot of what Spain has to offer in regards to Organic wines that are also suitable for Vegans.

Aren’t all wines vegan? The short answer is no. In reality, though most wines are vegan friendly, however, the EU and US don’t currently require wineries to list the fining agents that have been used on the label. The traditional fining agent is the part of the winemaking process that can make wines unsuitable for vegans. This is because it usually contains egg whites or casein. These products have, however, started to be moved over to a lot of vegetable-based products instead.

In order for a wine to be organic 95% of the ingredients used must come from organically produced plants or animals and the grapes must be grown without the use of artificial or synthetic chemicals such as pesticides or herbicides. It is also worth noting that not all organic wines are vegan friendly and not all vegan wines are organic. Read more about vegan and organic wine here.

Suitable for vegans and certified organic

In a nutshell: A bright, fruit-focused, and great value, certified organic Spanish red.
The lowdown: An old school field blend whereby different grapes from different vineyards are all fermented and matured together, this wine then spent 2 months in French oak barrels to round the wine off. This blend is predominately Tempranillo and Syrah but also includes a small proportion of a number of others. A wonderful, vibrant deep purple colour with rich, ripe spicy and brambly fruit, rounded tannins and a lively finish.
When to drink: Surprisingly sophisticated and very drinkable this is a, pretty much, any occasion wine that won't disappoint.

Artesa Organic Rioja 2019

Suitable for vegans and certified organic

In a nutshell: An excellent and inexpensive organic Rioja made along traditional lines.
The lowdown: This comes from a high altitude estate near Alfaro where the mature vines sit in poor, stony soils that have been converted to organic production. 50% of the blend spends 3 months in French oak, which lends it a subtle roundness in the classical style of Rioja. It's full of vibrant plum and black cherry flavours and aromas which are enveloped by a striking mulberry character. The palate itself is complex with juicy bramble fruit, black pepper and satisfying savoury character.
When to drink: If you like your Rioja in the classical style this is one for you. It's good with red meats, casseroles and mature hard cheeses.

Cora Loxarel, Penedes 2020

Suitable for vegans and certified organic

In a nutshell: An intriguing blend of Muscat and Xarel-Lo from Penedes in the heart of Catalonia.
The lowdown: Xarel-lo, in particular, is more often seen in Cava, much produced in this region, but here it melds beautifully with the attractively scented muscat to make a light in the mouth but flavour-filled wine.
When to drink: It's actually a refreshing aperitif and is a great foil to salty snacks and nibbles.
