False Bay: Affordable Wines with Real Soul

We’ve always had a soft spot for False Bay Vineyards. For quality, characterful South African wines that won’t break the bank, they’re pretty hard to beat. Named after South Africa’s iconic bay, which frames much of the country’s premium winelands, False Bay was founded with one clear goal: to make ‘real’ wine affordable.

It all started back in 1994, when Paul Boutinot came to the Western Cape on a mission. He sought out grapes from old, underappreciated vineyards - hidden gems that were destined to disappear into the big, unremarkable co-op blends dominating the market. Paul saw their potential and transformed them into good wines made with minimal intervention. Fermented with wild yeasts, made without acid additions, these wines were (and still are) music to the ears of ‘real wine’ lovers. Back then, he was swimming against the tide, and even today, this low-intervention approach at such a great price is a rarity.

We’ve had False Bay’s wines on our shelves for years, and they’re so reliable we sometimes take them for granted. But it’s about time we gave them the spotlight they deserve. Even better, there’s 10% off all False Bay wines this month—so if you’ve not tried them yet, now’s the perfect time to give them a whirl.
