Piedmontese Limited Parcels

Medium

What’s better than one reduced price limited parcel you ask? Well, that would be two reduced price limited parcels, wouldn’t it?

Good news that is exactly what we’ve got for you - we have not one but two limited Italian Parcels for you from the Piemonte region. This pair are made up of a crisp, ripe, dry native Piedmontese white from the Roero hills just north of the town of Alba and an amazing value complex and rich Barbaresco that’s matured nicely into its drinking window.

Alasia Roero Arneis 2019

Roero Arneis DOCG is white wine made from the native Piedmontese variety Arnies grown in the small wine area of Roero that lies just north of Barolo and Barbaresco and sits alongside Gavi di Gavi as one of Piedmont’s top whites. Fresh aromas of ripe pear with tropical and almond notes lead onto a clean, soft and textural palate packed with stone fruit and apricot notes with touches of fennel, clove and a bit of herbal and nuttiness on the finish. A charming white that offers some real complexity and is not often seen in the UK.

Try with seafood risotto, freshwater fish such as trout, or Asian-style seafood dishes.

Araldica 'Corsini', Barbaresco 2015

The Piedmontese wine region of Barbaresco is one of the most highly regarded in Italy and sits alongside its neighbour Barolo in producing the ultimate expression of Nebbiolo wines. This fantastic value Barbaresco from the very good 2015 vintage is made from Nebbiolo grown in the three communes of Treiso, Neive and Barbaresco, hand-harvested, and matured in traditional large Slavonian oak barrels for two years before bottling, where a further maturation period takes place before release.

Wonderful typical lifted aromas of red berry fruit, black cherries and hints of violets and savoury spice. The palate is medium-bodied, smooth and enveloping with mild tannins, a depth to the dried cherry and plum fruit flavours, slightly smoky notes and a long, rich finish.

Drinking now though will keep for another 5 years or so. Works really well with grilled red meat, lamb in particular, or hearty stews that are typical of the region.

Araldica, one of Piedmont’s largest and most forward-thinking co-operatives, is situated in Castel Boglione, in the Monferrato hills in the heart of Barbera d’Asti territory. Here they work with 230 grower members to source quality grapes from around 690ha of vineyards. Despite their size, they have a real family-run feel about them thanks largely to the husband and wife management/winemaking team of Claudio Manera and Lella Burdese.

Many of their members joined the co-operative in the 1950s and have a long and loyal relationship with the winery. They produce wines from Piedmont’s main DOC/DOCG regions – predominantly Barbera, Gavi and Moscato, but also including Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero Arneis.

Founded in 1954 by Livio Manera, father of the current director and winemaker Claudio, Araldica has developed over the past 60 years to become a major winemaking force in Piedmont, supplying wines across the globe. Lella heads up quality control and she is responsible for the blending and approval of all wines. Their son Carlo, also a qualified winemaker, is now part of the Araldica winemaking team. Livio pioneered developments in winemaking techniques – especially with regard to the production of Barbera – and Araldica has since continued to be instrumental in the promotion of Barbera and Gavi around the world. As Claudio states their aim is ‘…to provide a range that is both understandable and accessible. Quite simply, wine for drinking and enjoying.’
