Limited Parcel - Prats & Symington Prazo de Roriz, Douro Tinto 2018

Medium

A specially priced limited parcel of a fresh, fruity and robust Portuguese red from the stunning Douro Valley made by two of the legends in the winemaking world.

Although the Douro Valley in northern Portugal is famed for its Port it has been producing still red wines for far longer. On the dramatic, steep, rugged terraces upstream of the city of Porto different native varieties of vines grow side by side and whilst traditionally the best go into top Ports Prats & Symington reserve theirs for still red wine.

Prats & Symington is the coming together of the best of the Douro, in the legendary Symington Port family of Dow’s, Graham’s and Warre’s, and the finest of Bordeaux, in Bruno Prats formally of Saint-Estèphe estate Cos d'Estournel. Taking traditional Douro grapes such as Touriga Franca and Nacional grown on terraces overlooking the river, and the best viticultural and winemaking practices from Bordeuax, has resulted in some of the best wines in Portugal.

Their first and flagship wine, Chryseia, was the first Portuguese still wine to be named in Wine Spectator magazine’s annual Top 100 wines, and that quality follows through to their young, fresh and approachable Prazo de Roriz.

We have only 30 bottles available of Prazo de Roriz 2018 at this price.

Tasting Note

A bright, ripe and spicy red from the stunning Douro Valley.

Prats & Symington is the coming together of the historic Symington port family, owners of Graham's and Dow's to name but two, and Bruno Prats, formally of the great Bordeuax Saint-Estèphe estate Cos d'Estournel, mixing Douro Valley grapes and terroir with Bordeaux style and winemaking. The grapes for their young, fresh and approachable Prazo de Roriz are a traditional mix of Portuguese varieties coming from their two estates of Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz high up in the beautiful and rugged Douro Valley. Hand-picked followed by selection in the winery so only the ripest grapes make the grade, then a gentle crushing and gentle maceration resulting in a fresh, fruity and easy-drinking wine.

Lots of bright, crisp red berry, red cherry and raspberry aromas lead onto a medium-full bodied palate with black pepper spice, grippy tannins and a real clean, linear minerally acidity that follows through onto the finish.

Perfect accompaniment to grilled red meats and barbecues, or try with a typical rustic wild boar stew.
