Final Limited Parcel of 2022 - Domaine des Tourelles Red

For the final Limited Parcel release of 2022, we’ve found the perfect winter wine from a lesser-known producer. This wine will go great with any roast dinner, it’s also perfect for enjoying by itself on a weekday evening or give it as a Christmas present to someone special. This red wine is overflowing with ripe red fruit, with a well-balanced body, from the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. Available at a great one-off price of £12.50 a bottle.

About the wine:

This wine is made from a blend of 4 different red grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah contribute to the majority of the blend, both being 40%. The remainder of the blend is 15% Cinsault and 5% Carignan. The grapes are grown on 15–20-year-old vines, located on sandy limestone, with clay subsoil land. All four grape varieties were hand harvested and fermented in concrete vats for 10 days. Malolactic fermentation is allowed to start spontaneously. Following this the separate wines are blended together and then aged for 16 months in concrete vats.

Deep ruby red in colour, this wine is full of body and life. On the nose, there are powerful aromas of cherries, cedar wood, rosemary, and cloves. A rich savoury palate with lots of cherry and blackberry favours, some earthy spice, and fine tannins. A wine packed with flavour and heritage. This wine is only just starting the curve of its life, with some age and lying down this wine will become more developed and interesting. This wine is the perfect pair for rich. Lamb casseroles or a spicy chickpea harissa stew.

Domaine des Tourelles was founded in 1868 by a French adventurer and is one of the most highly acclaimed and oldest wineries still in operation in Lebanon. When the original family died, two local families joined forces to buy the property and continue the traditional winemaking. Practices in the cellar have continued, no fining or filtering, the use of indigenous natural yeasts and very small amounts of sulphur.
