DESCRIPTION
A rich, fruity and full bodied Japanese Single Malt matured in a mix of Sherry, Bordeaux and Mizunara oak casks.
The lowdown:
First released in 2014 Distiller's Reserve is one of their more recent expressions and is aged in a mix of Bordeaux wine and Sherry casks which gives it a richness and delightful red berry notes. There's also just a hint of floral oakiness from the portion of the blend aged in Mizunara casks. The aromas are certainly extensive and complex while the flavours on the palate are nicely understated. It finishes with a small flourish of vanilla and sweet cinnamon. It's a deep and well put together whisky and an excellent example of the expertise at Yamazaki.

PRODUCER
Yamazaki Distillery

The Yamazaki Distillery is Japan's first and oldest malt whisky distillery established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii who was the founder of the parent company Suntory. Situated on the outskirts of Kyoto Yamazaki has a claim to being the distillery that first established the international reputation of Japanese whisky.
While the original inspiration was taken from Scotland the vastly different terrain and climate of Japan has created a product with its own unique character and quality. The 1980's saw the launch of their first single malt - Yamazaki 12 year old - and in the following decade this was followed by further expressions as their success grew. Over the years they've received plenty of awards which has firmly cemented their standing in the world of whisky and in 2015 the Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 was named World Whisky of the year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible.
