Under the guidance of Pancho Lavaque Vallisto are based in the Calchquí valley in Argentina'a northernmost wine producing region of Salta. Less than 2% of Argentina's wines come from here, but quality rather than quantity is the watchword here.
Pancho, coming from a long line of winemakers in Cafayate, obtained his Viticulture and Enology degree from UC Davis before returning to the area to make his own mark. Collaborating with well known consultant winemakers Marcelo Pelleriti and Hugh Ryman he and his team are crafting some modern, elegant wines that are light on extraction and big on flavour and complexity. The vineyards round here are remote, high altitude and benefit from lots of sunshine hours. He has some lesser known grape varieties and some quite old vines as well. His range certainly reflects the potential he has available and each of his wines are distinct and excellent examples of what this far flung corner of Argentina is capable of.
