In a nutshell: A smooth, rich and stylish French red from the Rhône Valley's Ventoux appellation.
The lowdown: Terraventoux are one of the major producers in this area, whose vineyards sit on the southerly slopes of the distinctive Mont Ventoux which overlooks the southern Rhône valley. Here they make some very good value wines of which this delicious blend of Grenache and Syrah is a fine example. It's full of ripe cherry and bramble fruits flavours with herby, spicy aromas and a delicate hint of liquorice. The silky, ripe tannins put it all in very good balance and it finshes with a pleasingly fresh feel.
When to drink: An intense and characterful red which is well suited to red meat and game.
Sitting in the foothills of the mighty Mont Ventoux in the southern Rhône valley this forward looking producer has over 200 hectares of vineyards on varied soils from which they produce their excellent range of wines. Cave TerraVentoux itself was created in 2003 from the merger of two local cooperatives, Roches Blanches de Mormoiron and the Montagne Rouge in Villes-sur-Auzon.
