Tenuta San Guido is best known as the home of Sassicaia, one of the world's most sought after wines. They are based in the small Tuscan village of Bolgheri not far from the Tyrrhenian sea coast.
Sassicaia is the original 'Super Tuscan' made from Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc rather than the area's main grape Sangiovese. When they first released it in 1968 it quickly became a sensation, revolutionised Tuscan wine and created a new genre in the process.
The estate is currently in the hands of Nicola Incisa della Rocchetta who continues to buuild on their success by ensuring their uncompromising production methods are kept at the cutting edge. During the early 2000s they also introduced two further wines, Guidalberto and Le Difese here making use of Merlot and Sangiovese blended with Cabernet Sauvignon.
