Description
In a nutshell:
A concentrated, well balanced and plump Sancerre from one of the appellation's top domaines.
The lowdown:
At Domaine Henri Bourgeois they're fortunate to have 60 hectares of some of the best vineyards in Sancerre from which they make some superlative wines. This cuvée is so called because the vineyards here are on the precipitous and difficult to work slopes of the Mont Damnés or 'cursed mountain' despite being some of the best terroir in the appellation. After hand harvest of only the ripest grapes the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then matured on its lees for at least 9 months before bottling. It has quite a fleshy feel which complements the delicate tropical aromas and pure, clean minerality making it an extremely good example of the domaine's prowess.
When to drink:
It has the structure to age well and gain complexity and richness for up to five years after bottling. Fish, white meats and ripe soft cheeses make good food partners.
