Description
In a nutshell:
A rich and opulent 1er Cru Puligny-Montrachet from the renowned Maison Louis Latour.
The lowdown:
Still family owned after 300 years Maison Louis Latour is one of the major names in Burgundy and have among the largest land holdings of any. At the top end they produce some superlative wines of which this Puligny-Montrachet is a good example. The La Garenne vineyard is one a cluster of top 1ers Crus to be found here and the grapes for this come from vines with an average age of 35 years. After fermentation in oak barrels the wine is further matured in oak for between 8 and 10 months. On the nose there's an array on exotic fruit aromas which give way to to rich, buttery character on the palate and a crisp balancing acidity. It has a long, lingering and quiet seductive finish.
When to drink:
Great to drink now and until around the mid 2020's. Its buttery and complex make-up means it's perfect with richly flavoured fish, shellfish and poultry dishes.
