In a nutshell:
A soft and smooth yet fresh and clean white from Galicia, on the border with northern Portugal.
Godello, the grape variety used, is native to this area and is now undergoing something of a renaissance since the 1980s when it nearly ceased being cultivated. It makes well structured, taut dry whites and it's great to see more of them. This example from Pazos del Rey is packed full of red apple, melon, pear and ripe lemon flavours. It's vibrant yet not sharp in anyway with a lightly bitter twict at the finish.
When to drink:
The fresh minerality and ripe fruit character make it good on it's own or paired with salmon, seafood, chicken or crisp salads.
